Which of these file sets to buy?

Second set, there are no smooth cut files in the first set.

Be sure and get some handles, if you don't already have some.

First set (9 pc) says it has smooth cut files- is that incorrect?

I just saw none in the summary. They do list it in the full description, but I would question it. You don't want only fatherless child cut files.

Plus more variety in sizes, and a cleaner. Perhaps a file card.

Nelson,

There are a lot of files in both of those sets that would never get used in my shop. Mostly I use a 10" smooth cut mill file, a 6" bastard cut round file, a 6" bastard cut square file, a 6" bastard cut half round and a good set of needle files (Nicholson or Grobet). If I need a safe edge, I just hit the edge of a mill file with the belt sander. I like the 10" mill files because they are cheap ($8 everywhere) and versatile. At that price I don't hesitate to replace them when they get dull. Those files with a card and screw on wooden handles will cost around $45. Adding a set of quality needle files will get you to the 20% discount level.

Lol. Apparently I'm not allowed to use the word bastard on this site when referring to the cut of a file. I wonder if ***** gets censored as well?

OK, so you would take the 8-piece set.

I do like that is has a card cleaner. Very much needed.
