Whatsit question (tooling)

Centers for a polishing lathe?

Sounds reasonable. You got me thinking wood lathe. (if I was to sand ect on a lathe I'd probably do it on the wood lathe. Save the metal lathe)
I searched for centers like that on wood lathe sites, but came up empty.

They are stand off gauges for measuring the depth of a taper. No doubt for a specific job. The gauge is placed into a tapered hole, then measured from the end of the work piece to the shoulder. Oh yea... the handles are missing.

There seems to be some contact marks (burnishing?) on three of them.
Really curious why they have spring clips.
Are they all hollow with a centre divot inside?

2 have a noticeable mark. One is at 2.5" dia and the other 1 3/16" dia.
Spring clip might be the wrong word. With more powerful glasses I see they are fancier than I thought. Pic is blurry but it's not your regular round clip.
Yes hollow with a center drill mark. Also the inside is straight walled.
The second largest shows what I think is evidence it's casted. (I think) Pic doesn't show it well.

The underside of the knurl looks like it is ground square. No chamfer there like there is on the top.
Seems like a small area to measure from.
Or is the top used for the measuring point?
I found this: http://riverhawk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Ring-Plug-Gages-Catalog.pdf
A bit different but I think we're on the right track.

Wine glasses for machinists?
Very (very) small-batch cement mixers?
A new style of low-rider rim?
Bowling pins for the backyard?
Peach pit removers?
Alpine cow bells?

I like those.
My first thought seeing them from a distance was hole punch. Smack the end of it on leather or paper and make a nice hole.
Up close didn't look anything like that....No hammer for these fellas.

The first thing that come to my mind was that they were possibly rotary attachments (cones) for an old engraver.

wag though,
