I am always astounded at how many different types of simple equipment just to colour a slice of bread are to be found in our stores.
What a senseless waste of resources.
The company SMEG stands for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla an Italian company.
The odoriferous compound is smegma.
I must admit the very first time I saw it on a cooker I cracked up.
We own a Smeg toaster. They're expensive, but they're a genuine appliance - which is to say, something that's made to last many, many, years. Like the toasters you used to get for free for opening a bank account. But completely unlike the disposable garbage you get for $50 and less these days.
Our old faithful toaster finally gave up after around 30 years of service so we purchased a $40.00 toaster that is a challenge to use and never works the same way twice but I'll be damned if I'd spend 2,3,4 hundred to toast bread just on principle, Its a toaster, it toasts bread.
For over 65 years now, our hand-crafted appliances have come to be seen as tasteful and stylish solutions to the demands of contemporary italian cooking.
