What to look for in a lathe?

I know of a 12in craftsman in portland AR for around 700.00. Did not see the change gears when I looked at it. If you were out for a ride and happened by I'd let you try my 9 sb out to make sure you would like that kind of lathe for what you do. I am 75 miles north of you. tommie
