What Should I Do with All These Wooden Drawers?

I don't think I've purchased a knob for the last 15 years. They are too easy to make with all the equipment we have.

Get out the welder and make a frame out of angle iron with angles to slide the drawers into. Paint it black. Weld on some casters if you want it to move. Wood and metal gives a nice contrast

That’s the way I made the frame for my boxes. Worked great. I built them about thirty years ago and I’m still using them.

The plywood is too ugly to be on the outside of the finished product. There is also some bowing on the plywood shelves.

I will be putting some nice trim (which I will stain) on all the outside surfaces.

I just picked up 72 of these very cheap, very small knobs (72 knobs for $26 delivered). I don’t have time to make these on my lathe.

This morning’s progress. A lot of gluing and clamping.

The top (last photo) is a “tray” that holds a 20” X 20” X 20” chest.

To mitigate any sagging some 1/8 welding rod is helpfull.

Drill hole on each side just below and against shelf.

Push rod through and mark for cut about 1/2 inch long.

Thread both ends.

Replace in shelf and add nuts.

In center add small spacer between rod and shelf.

Tighten nuts to add tension.

Additional notes.

Counterbore sides so nuts are recessed.

Do a bit back from front so not visible.
