What job did you do today in your shop?

@Weldingrod1

Slow and steady. I read somewhere that when Ford made the cross shaft it was straight when the ends were turned. Then the shaft was bent as you see in the photos.

The center holes in the ends of the shaft were buggered up such that the shaft would not turn concentric when chucked up on a live center in the tailstock.

I turned an aluminum adapter piece that had a 75 degree concave cone on one face and a center point hole on the opposite face. That adapter was placed between the tailstock live center and the shaft end. This allowed me to hold the the the loose end of the shaft at the tailstock and to adjust the shaft so it ran true in the lathe.

I had a chuck stop on the opposite end so the shaft would not slip back into the chuck jaws.

Then I just went at very slow RPM and took light cuts.

It worked and I was able to get both ends of the shaft turned to proper dimension.

pics of the adapter if you still have it. Might as well make it useful for search here.

have you tried the knotted wheels over those. I don't get wires in the face with a knotted wheel.
@woodchucker the knotted wheels do reduce the fraying of wires. The knotted wheels seem to be a bit more forgiving and better at reaching into crevices when using it for cleaning of parts.

Evicted some metrology from one drawer, moved my tailstock tooling to that drawer, then moved my currently mounted tooling into the drawer that previously held my tailstock tooling.

Not 100% done yet, more tooling to mount but I am waiting on some tool-holders before I can do that.

I am also waiting on some shorter studs (Allen Grub screws) for the height adjustment thumbnut and locknut so I can stand the tools upright in the drawer.

Regarding the cut-off tools................

I have MGMN, Q-Type and blade type GTN in 2mm and 3mm plus a custom ground 4mm insert cutting/grooving tool. Yes, I use them all for various things, however, I have just replaced all the GTN tools for various reasons, effectively hitting digital equivelant of the "reset" button. The MGMN tools are new, but I have used some previously and I find them rather better for cutting-off smaller stock.

The 4mm cutting/grooving tool (far right, at the back of the drawer) has a custom insert due to the inability to acquire the inserts separately (so far I have had no luck in all the time I have looked). The insert is a custom ground JCL15-120I insert that had a damaged tip. So far, it is working nicely since I ground a slight right hand bias to the tip.

The holder is a QA10102R-03. Darned if I can find any inserts for it..

The insert trays, top left, hold (on top) Used, but still usable inserts, the next two down hold replacement tool-holder allen grub screws (that hold the tool in place at centre height before being locked into place), the bottom tray holds replacement locknuts.

***** EDIT *****

Now I have just found JCQ3 Inserts are what fit the QA1010R2-03 tool! GAH!! Only taken since I first acquired that tool-set to discover that!
