It's a brass thing with 3 different piston things . I read up on it on the web but really couldn't find where they are used and for what purpose . I found one today from at least 25 years ago . :dunno:
 
a "pressure snubber" is designed to restrict fast pressure changes in air* or fluids by arresting the rate at which it can travel.

* Air is considered as a fluid given its density.

Yes, hydraulic controls are especially susceptible. Gas systems only need them if they're big buku.

Not necessarily. If an air system has sensitive equipment or equipment with sensative seals, they are often used as a protection system against potentially damaging surges.
