Correct, your parting tool has a 4mm width of cut (H size), whereas mine has a 2.5mm width of cut (F size). See attached. 4mm is pretty wide (0.16") for an indexable parting tool. You're going to need plenty of power and rigidity to run that tool. Looks like you have a Jet 1440 TL type, which has the guts to run that 4mm parting tool, but they aren't at all forgiving on alignment and tool height.David, I appreciated the information, one concern though... Since my cut-off tool is an H series I don't think the F series inserts you listed will do me much good... At least thats what I gathered reading the Sandvik literature...
This is what I have ordered... SANDVIK - L123H2-0400-0503-CR 1125
The detail of the packaging alone makes me pretty confident that the inserts are the real deal... I've seen counterfeit product before, they tend to cut corners on the packaging... The box with the molded in Sandvik/Coromant logo pretty much makes me feel like it's the real deal...
I am liking the fact your pleased with your cut off tool... Sounds like you've experimented with a few... I know I have on my small lathe.. On my new bigger lathe I'm hoping to start with good tooling from the beginning...
Just want to point out that the inserts you are looking at have Left relief angle, so when parting off, the "nib" will be left on the side being cut free, and the material in the chuck should be cut clean. If you want the off-cut free of a nib, you'd want an R123H2-0400.
