Just returned from our trip to Live Oak and then Virginia and then Baltimore and then Virginia again. Took just 10 days.
First we stopped in Live Oak, FL to see the sister unit and brother-in-law. Spent time looking around and living in the woods.
After that we went up to see the No. 2 daughter and the new gran'daughter again. Spent time getting to know the gran' better and talking to the Daughter and son-in-law. I think Willow (the new gran') was trying to talk to me, well, she was making noises anyway. She's now 8 weeks old. Went to some micro-breweries and tasted the beers (nothing as good as the Rocking Rabbit Pub in Mount Dora), good but not that good. Did a project for the daughter, hung the lamp we had put together for her and then finally after years and years and years, we got the electric panel framed and covered. O! we did fix the front door handle too, that's only been needing something done since...forever. ({;-)
After spending a few days there we went on up to Baltimore to see the No. 1 daughter. Had real crab cakes (not the bread cakes people call crab cakes) and went to some more breweries (do you see a pattern here?). Went up near the Pennsylvania border and picked apples, then to a cidery (Hmmmm? there it is again) and drove around the country a little, nice country.
Then it was back down to Virginia to spend just a bit more time with the No. 2 daughter's family. They were probably glad to see us go on down the road.
Got home Thursday afternoon and blobbed out.
This morning I started to work on a 22LR rifle my brother-in-law asked if I could fix. Remington Model 597. It had been left outside and it rusted, Really, it rusted. Froze up a bit on some things doncha know. So I sanded the barrel clean and reblued it. The barrel bluing is mottled, too many fine rust pits in it. So I went over it 5 or 6 times with the bluing solution (cold blue) to darken it as much as I could. Took the receiver apart and cleaned it up too. The receiver is aluminum and some plastic and has a black coating that has flaked off in some areas but I decided for the time being to leave it as is. I put three 'rat shot' through it, fired them into a bucket of water, to see if it would fire. Did just fine. Had to fire it in the shed so as not to frighten the "Noo Yarker" living in the area (read alllmossst eeeveeerybooody!), they are touchy about 'faar ahrms' The safety is still stiff on it, very, very, very stiff, the kinda stiff so's you have to tap it with a small hammer to set it. I'm hoping it will loosen up the rest of the way over time and with use and copious amounts of oil...and tapping. I thought of putting a flash suppressor on it but didn't want to tear it down anymore than I had already done. I might change my mind but...don't think it would look that good with one. Still need a clip for it.
Also ran around (drove) to some groj sails Friday morning. Didn't see much I wanted except...I was interested in a 10" radial arm saw at this "HUGE!" groj sail. But I walked away from it. Hey! Did I really need another power tool? I told the wife about the groj sail and all the 'lady' stuff and furniture there and she decided to go back and look. She called me and said the guy would take $25.00 for this radial arm saw he had, go figure, so I bit. Now I have one sitting in the garage. Something else I will have to set up so I can use it effectively...ain't life grand? One like it, though a much newer model, would have cost me $600 - $800 to buy. So a little clean up, oil, grease...could be a bearing, but I don't think so...and I'll have it up and running.
O! NO! I JUST REALIZED I MUST BE OLD I GO TO 'GROJ SAILS"!
I also fixed an Ott Light (look it up) and found out another one was unfixable...well unfixable by me anywho.
Excell at sompin toady, like...never turning down a project just because you've never done it before and might not be able to put it back together after the fact. Hey! When you're retired they think you have plenty of time to do it...so take plenty of time to do it.
