What Did You Buy Today?

A pic and a quick video...pretty sure it was at 700rpm and you can see how quickly the spindle stops.
Indeed, the brake on this machine is lightning-fast!
It's a very good thing, especially useful when knife-cutting threads is made.
The minimum spindle speed of 40/min is also beneficial (e.q. for threading with regular tools, like threading die or tapper) although even lower would be useful; I have 28/min in a old Polish lathe of similar size, and using this speed is sometimes really indispensable.
The 1.375" spindle bore is also very good - I only have 1"; sometimes that's too little.

To sum up: a beautiful machine! :)

I have a similar one. They are nice & heavy. I get the most use out of it with my thread mic. I find a thread mic more difficult to get positioned than just checking diameter with a standard mic.
Agreed, that is the only reason I bought it. That is my thread mic in the picture. I have a customer that holds me to some pretty tight 3/8-32 tpi tolerances. He measures this way so for his parts, I measure this way.

I've had a couple of similar stands, but never really liked them; then I found this for a not outrageous price a few years ago:

Starrett 3206; infinitely (and easily) adjustable. I use it primarily for adjusting micrometers (even works with Mitutoyo, Fowler & no-name mic's).

Why not do a go no go if they are holding you tight. That's quicker and more accurate

That's pretty, I do like that, very much, even with that Starrett label looking like it's on the wonk (@RaisedByWolves, I know, I know, but honestly mate, I think you can work out that particular British-ism!), I assume it's down to the angle of the picture.

I really ought to get a mic' stand; I just avoided dropping my Mit digital mic' on the concrete floor today!:oops::rolleyes:
