What Did You Buy Today?

I didn’t know this was possible :disillusion: Good to know!
Older worms, anyway - maybe the new ones don't do this, but most tackle box storage is now PP.

I spent a half-hour going through all of these:

Before finding one with the damage I was talking about (What's the saying? It's always the last place you look?):

I wonder if they had formaldehyde in those worms, that stuff melts acrylic for sure

Not a purchase, but one H-M member helping another. @Charles scozzari was kind to send a few pounds of high-wearing babbitt from his stash to help me rebuild the carriage feed drive on my lathe. This alloy is as close to ideal as could be for the purpose. I'll post it as I tear into it. Thank you again, Charlie!

Okay, I did buy something. Congress has voted to ban a new list of chemicals, and trichloroethylene is on the list. So I bought a case of tall boys for those critical tasks where flammable petroleum solvents will do more damage than good. I don't use a lot of it, but when you need it, you need it. This oughta get me through. If only I could have done the same with methylene chloride paint stripper and MEK.

Well, I couldn't help myself. In a previous post I admitted I hadn't bought a tool in 2 days. Much to my delight I once again fell off the wagon. Saturday, I bought a Delta 33-400 (14") radial arm saw.

Earlier in the week I had also ordered 4 new indexing plates for my L-W Chuck Co. 11" dividing head. They were delivered Saturday. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the 4 plates on the right side are the ones I just ordered.

I tried, believe me I tried (well sorta). The temptation was just too great. I've got to start attending those support meetings on a more regular basis.

Now if I could only find enough time to work in the shop.

trichloroethylene
TCE free brake cleaner is still powerful (and vile) stuff. TCE has been banned in the EU for a while now and I haven’t noticed much difference between the old and new Brakleen.

DCM free paint strippers however, are absolute garbage.

IS MEK outlawed? I have been looking for it in NJ and CT. I use it to weld plastics. I also used it to clean paint stuff. Naptha is becoming hard to find as well.

Picked up a nice Bosch router today on market place for $75. Came with a couple of bits. Now I just need a table to mount it to.View attachment 464305
FYI: 1/2 bits should be the norm for this router. Don't bother with 1/4 unless you need small bits. I have 2 of these. 1 is permanently mounted in a table.. The only time I wish for more power is when doing door panels and such. They are great routers. The new style is too heavy by comparison in my opinion. BTW if you make a table do not enclose it , do not put suction in the cabinet. I did and learned you should not do that. The switch had to be replaced. Also the motor was full of saw dust. You are fighting the air current, the motor normally draws through the motor and exhausts at the bit, so putting suction in a cabinet reverses it and kills the switch and motor. I made a shroud to remove the dust at the bit in the cabinet. That way it breathes normally.
