What Did You Buy Today?

PTG delivered a bolt today for this nut. It's the action that I raceway reamed to 23/32" as posted in POTD. I hand lapped it until a .7168” gauge pin just glasses through, and ordered the bolt ground to .7165”. Hopefully it stays nice and glassy when hot from shooting. We shall see.

Nickel boron?

Nickel boron?
No, it's just bare 416. I think they bead blast them after machining the blanks then they do the bodies, cocking cam, and lug faces on a cnc grinder. I will be using KG Gear Kote teflon moly finish on this one (6 BR) and the 20 Vartarg that I'm finally getting around to finishing. I'll keep posting in POTD as I go along. I would start a thread, but these projects go glacially slow. It seems that every bit of tooling that I acquire leads me deeper and deeper into what I can accomplish, but there are big gaps in the whole measure->order->acquire->measure->order->infinite loop. I have two more bone stock Rem 700s to work after these two, then it's probably going to be boutique actions for me going forward. I haven't done anything but Remingtons so far. They can be pimped pretty well, but I've already decided it's a lot of trouble to go to bringing a mass produced factory action up to snuff. They shoot great once done, but the labor blows the cost out of the water, especially when tossing the factory bolt is part of the plan.

Some times the satisfaction makes the time and money worth while. I am building 2 DSME AR-308's and I bought Zero Fail Nickel Boron BCG, I like them well as I replaced the BCG in My Bushmaster 5.56 with one and it works much smoother.

The bolt in your picture looks good....

I brought this home yesterday. It is old-ish but in decent shape. Runs great. I paid $390 for it. Two years ago, I would have thought someone was nuts to spend that, but today it seems like a real deal.
It came with three extra new blades.
Everything was great until I was lifting it off of my truck. It tipped over backward, and the motor landed on the pallet fork upright. It pushed the fan housing in and broke the fan. $%!!@#%$
I am drawing one up tonight in Solidworks and will give a 3D-printed one a go.

I have several ARs that I built with NiBo bolts. I bought several bolts only, expecting to later (much later, apparently) use KG Gear Kote on the uncoated carriers. You are right, it makes a lot of difference on bolts and trigger parts.

I've got two uncontoured barrel blanks coming in tomorrow from Green Mountain with a .311 bore. One's going in to an AR/AK that I built that I took to the range one time to sight in. The barrel I bought was junk, the leade had huge burrs and cracked off chunks that would not go away with any amount of cone lapping. That's the last pre-made barrel I'll ever buy. It shot 3 inch groups and my friend was wondering why I was unhappy with it. Ignorance is bliss, man. The second bbl is for a field gun, 7.62x39 bolt action. I have a reamer coming in from the Ukraine to do those barrels with. I gotta get me some therapy, I build more toys than my wife says I need.

I bought a box of inline WAGO connectors.
I already have a ton of parallel ones but these inline I hadn't seen before. I also hadn't looked for a while.

I just bought a stereo for my SUV and wanted a quick, and easy, wire connection plan.

For those who don't know, WAGO connectors are a very good alternative to wire nuts. They are reusable, lever lock, wire connectors that can go up to 14g wire and rated at 450V, 32A

Hands down easier to use than wire nuts.

I wish you had dropped some common object (coin?) on that box top so we could get some idea of the scale (size) of the connectors.

The WAGO site is useless. Couldn't find any dimensions on the web. Can you post the dims?

Wago or screw terminals are code in Germany, wire nuts are not only verboten, they are thought of as unsichere Aktion, a no-no. Trivia for the day...

Today I got some nice cutters to make a wider Anschutz rail to cover up my goof (and blunder you should avoid) from inletting the forend of my walnut stock. It's like they were made for the purpose!
