What can I do with this? Spent H104 water filter.

Wrong company.............

From Everpure:

Recycling Everpure Filters
"Sip. Save. Recycle." That's Everpure's motto. Everpure filter cartridges are made with high-grade aluminum and plastics and are therefore easily recycled. The company has partnered with Waste Management to ensure that its cartridges are recycled to become new, sustainable products. Simply contact Everpure to find a drop-off location near you and take your expired cartridges to a participating recycling center. If there are no drop-off locations nearby, you can mail your cartridges instead.

Let me be more clear. I was suggesting that the filter cartridge be designed such that the most expensive component(s) could be reused for their original intended purpose. Of course, that was when I assumed you were correct in thinking that the housing was stainless.

The statement from Everpure is just passing the buck and a person would have to be pretty dedicated (or stupid) to spend $10-$20 on postage to mail it anywhere. Notice they don't mention where to mail it.

Hmm, just aluminum? What a disappointment. Of course, I would have figured it out when I first cut it. Oh well, I'm going to cut it open anyways and gut it. I'll find some use for it, someday.

I have numerous water filters in the basement , all stainless and all made by my company . If you have the head and inerds , load it up with charcoal , put in a colesting (sp) filter for condensation control , replace the spent filter if possible are a few options .

How to open the filter so it can be used again? Or I guess, more importantly, how to reseal it? Seems like the edge is rolled over on the top.
Cut the ends and peel it back, or just (joking?) part it off on a lathe?

So the Everpure H104's are stainless case or aluminum? To be honest, haven't even tried scratching it yet. Was almost mesmerized by the gleam of it. I'll look at it today.

Edit: how are the cases made? A big forming press?

Your system is different from what we make . Our elements are replaceable in the shells . Just pull the head off and install the new element . I'll post a pic of what we make in a while , have to head out . I've never seen replacements that were that expensive though .

@mmcmdl Yes, in the scheme of things the cartridges are expensive, considering they are throw aways. Would be nice to be able to recharge them.

Series of draw dies . Here's one that we make and sell . :) This is a 1/2 micron filter which is a little tight for a water system , but we wind a shipload of different microns . I use them on my well inlets and used to use them on my compressor set up with coalescing elements .
