Here's a link to an image I found that clearly shwos what the belt transfer lever looks like


I was thinking the handle piece was integral to the casting and the locking mechanism was separate. I suspect that this machine fell over at one point and broke the handle as well as the upper spindle arm.

I think I'm going to proceed with the domed handle and use it as a locking device as well as a means to transfer the belt.
