Warning about Rain-X products

A year ago I had the wind shield washer reservoir low alarm go off randomly on my car. Despite it being full of fluid. Then to now the alarm continues to go on/off randomly. I went on reddit, and sure enough the people there say the same about RainX brand washer fluid. I thought that paying an extra dollar or two per gallon jug would get better results. Not break the fluid level sensor.

I mean I was told not to get the cheap washer fluid as the -35 below cheap jugs would freeze on occasion. Here in quebec at least. So you must buy -45 below jugs for that little extra methonal.
I have enough trouble finding the -20 stuff. But then this is California and that's Fahrenheit.

That's petrochemical companies for you, always changing up the formula based on the pennies per gallon they can save on whatever is coming out of the end of the pipe at the refinery on any given day. Rain-x is a wax in a solvent, I bet they've put dozens of different concoctions in those yellow bottles over the years.

Back in the eighties, RainX saved our bacon. My buddy and I were about to leave for a week long Canadian fishing trip and his wiper quit. It was pouring rain and we were faced with the possibility of having to postpone or cancel our trip. I coated his windshield with RainX and we were able to drive through the rain for more than 400 miles without a wind. I thought it was the greatest idea ever and applied it to my own car.

A few weeks later, reality set in. There was this greasy film on the windshield that couldn't be removed. I don't recall what the final outcome was.. I probably sold the car and it became someone else's problem. I threw out the rest of the bottle.

I would just recoat when it wore out. The most important thing with a small bottle is start off with a clean windshield.

Can't be beat for rain or snow.
Even the wiper fluid is not close, but maybe good enough.

In my experience...
The glass needs to be "very" clean. That means cleaning with extra fine steel wool and then follow up with a couple of fine cleanings with 91% Alcohol. Glass has tiny little pits in it and those pits need to be clean as they will hold dirt. If the glass is not deep cleaned, it's like waxing a dirty car. Plus it should never be applied on glass that is in the hot sun. The reason I have stayed away from Rain X is because as soon as the windshield wipers are used, the ability to shed water declines. If I were to be taking a long trip where I was going to be on the highway. Yes, I would be applying Rain X. But here in Florida cars get sprayed by sprinkler systems all the time and that's with reclaimed water.
You are bound to turn the wipers on to get that Cr@p off the windshield.

My only problem was when I tried it on the inside.
