Vee type QCTP vrs Aloris Style or Multifix 40 position style

Ok so here is the dilema.

My 1440V Lathe came with a QCTP, but it was the Vee style. The tool holders for these are rare as hen's teeth. I can order them from the factory, but only a few types are made, and they charge a premium. I would like to get a bunch so I can be set up for different cutters without having to unscrew and adjust height each time.

Option two is order a BXA set and be able to get the extra holders easily. With the price of them, will not take much to be cheaper to replace the whole set than to get the Vee type ones.

Has anyone used the Multifix 40 Pos tool holder? how do you like it and have you had trouble getting tool holders for it? there are those that claim it will take over and make the Aloris system not as popular, or are those sayers just dreamers?

What say ye all?

Walter

I have a Multifix on one of my 16" lathes and I love it. I all so have AXA, BXA, Turret tool posts
and I like the Multifix bast of all

A QCTP isn't QC if you don't have tool holders for it. I'm not made of money, so the AXA (or BXA) plus cheap tool holders from CDCO is the only way to go. I figure a dozen holders is a minimum to have the most used tools mounted, aligned and ready to go.

That is my problem right there, I wanted to order some tool holders as I do not want to be always resetting the height because I am changing and 15 holders is $1400. For that I can scrap out the Vee and get a BXA with a bunch of holders and have change left over.

Haven't priced out the Multifix yet, but am interested in looking at it and hearing what makes it better.

15 CDCO holders is about $135, but call it $150 so you can throw out a couple that might be tighter or looser than you really want. I'm very happy with my Phase II wedge type. I think they're permanently on sale at Enco as a set with holders.

I've used Multifix type that came with a Clausing..I didn't appreciate it..
Out of habit I use my hand to clean the flakes of swarf from the tool post and the holder before I drop the tool holder on the post. (wedge type)
It's difficult to do this with the Multifix type..

ED I did get a good deal on a new Multifix made in Germany with 7 tool holders including
the lever threading and the lever boring holder for a lot less than a Aloris it just feels more
solid. or maybe it is like the car you own if it is yours it is the best one on the road.
I use a brush to clean the Multifix
