Two Questions for North Louisiana Machinist

CL for sure, but reach on out to the old oil patch in NETexas. Im thinking Tyler, Longview, and Kilgore area. It can be seasonal, and of course "goes with flow".

Be patient Unless you just want a shop full of shiny. I if so, make a list and get the checkbook. if you have friends in the biz, put word out.

Find out who the local toll dealers are. They run the same circles as the equipment guys.

There is probably more industrial commerce than you think.

What are looking far as machinery goes? Might know of something sitting in a corner.
I know of a turnkey, operating shop for sale but am giving that one some thought myself.

I have said this many times before. I have found literally tons of equipment on Craigslist. I am in the Houston area. I have other friends here who say that they can't find anything.A lot of our tools head directly to Mexico. The secret to Craigslist is persistence. You have to look several several times a day. When you see something interesting. Stop what you are doing and call, email or whatever is necessary to get in touch with the seller. A good deal lasts about 2 hours, because someone else with more determination will grab it. When you contact the seller make arrangements to see the item ASAP. If that means at dinner time on a Tuesday, do it. I used to send leads to friends. When I asked them how it went, the response was often :"Well I was going to call them in a couple of days, but they had already sold it".

Another effective trick is making use of Searches . Say, you're looking for an Aloris tool post. Do a search for "aloris", then click "Save Search". THEN go into your account and TURN the search ON . Whenever someone posts something with ALORIS in it, you will get an email alert. Craigslisers are often terrible spellers. You might also try "Allores", "Eloras", etc. Once again respond ASAP or you will loose the edge.

Another trick is do a regular search for Aloris, now look for postings that are close to the 30 day limit. Say he was wanting $600 for it. Offer your price. Would you take $200 for it? Frequently by this time he's tired of dealing with it and just wants to get rid of it.

No, these tricks aren't 100 percent effective, but I have bought hundreds of tools for cheap using them.

We are in De Queen, upper southwest Arkansas. Our shop is 26 wide by 24 long with 4 rooms. Main room with two lathes, mill, drill press, tool boxes, and my work bench is 16 x 14. Room with my son's bench and the reloading bench is 10 x 14. Grinders, sanders, table saw, etc. is in a 16 x 10 room. and, we have a storage room that is 10 x 10. Sometime this summer we will clean out the store room to make room for another lathe.
Close quarters but we don't have much wasted space. LOL
We solved the humidity problems long ago with a/c. We use a window mount heatpump for heating and cooling.

Being in Shreveport, you're about 2.5 hours from us, pretty close by rural standards.

That a heck of a nice sounding shop. I only get about 12 feet of that 12x24 to use for machine area , I have a 9x20 Enco lath with many updates and still working on it. Along with my 9x42 pmf Mathews milling machine , baldor 42” belt sander, couple grinders and polisher, angle grinder, work bench , vertical craftsman band saw I am going to convert to metal saw, parts washer , drill press, some assorted cabinets toolbox’s etc. the rest of it is for storage and reloading press’s a Dillon xl650 a rcb rock chucker and a Lee turret and powder racks with all the components etc.
I need about 30x50 with divided area like you have.
