yes, but we can learn so much just by listening and watching. There are always little tidbits that he has, or had, since I haven't seen his stuff in I think a few years. I do miss them both.
All the professional machinists can provide methods that we would never think of. Everytime I see something I am like damn. But I don't remember a lot of stuff. If I were smart, I would figure out a way to categorize and log it for future reference.

A trick that has served me well is to listen even if you don't understand a lot of it.

Back in my grad school days, I met a crazy haired chemist who mumbled and I could only understand about 10% of what he was saying. Eventually I worked in that lab and I we had a few conversations where I was almost keeping up. He was so smart that there was an issue of an academic journal in which the first 5 articles were written by him. So listen, even if from afar. You might surprise yourself with how much you'll learn
