That happened on a United flight that I was on to Cleveland back in the seventies but it was the stewardess that triggered it, The plane had was waiting for clearance to take off from ORD. No. 1 engine had caught fire and we had to evacuate on the tarmac and somehow she activated the raft and it trapped her back in the aft section of the plane which eliminated the aft escape. We exited via slide. One passenger broke his ankle when he slid into the previous passenger. We then had to stand around in the March sleet storm until a bus arrived to take us back to the terminal.
