I empathize. My first truck was a 75 Jeep Cherokee, a total rust bucket. I mounted pieces of 6"X 2" 1/4" thick steel channel to replace the rotted bumpers. Made navigating NYC traffic much easier as the cabdrivers, etc, would back way-off at the sight of those bumpers coming at them!I need that for Atlanta traffic...

I would be more appropriate to fill the tail gate with concrete, and leave it down for aerodynamics sake, to make up for the square shape of the rest of it.......So you pour the doors full of concrete to balance it out!
