The only real issues with the screws on the intake pipe is that it will drip from condensation. Not a big deal in the basement I guess. Mike

Yes. Actually, when I looked at the photo again, there is ductwork in the back. Our vent pipes are glued but I can see using screws on the intake as it can be taken apart to clean the birds and bees nests out. (I made screened covers for ours to keep them out)

You are pulling cold outside air into a warmer environment so the relative humidity of the air inside the pipe will decrease. The colder air will chill the pipe causing condensation on the outside of the pipe but that will happen whether the pipe is glued or screwed.
