Today

the centrifuge itself isn’t actually our responsibility, keeping the hydraulic actuator, pumps and control system for the payload working is what my boss designed and fabricated. It started acting up so we are doing a complete overhaul.

My coworker in the photo is a recent engineering graduate, and most of what we do is for universities. He describes the most powerful destructive force on the planet as engineering undergraduates :p

Cut off and ground out the old actuator mount and machined a new one (on the assumption it had originally pulled past the bearing tolerance when initially welded. (We have a fixture to know measure any deflection as we weld it back)
