Just learned the wife's nephews house burned to the ground yesterday up in Pa . With all the woodstoves burning and extra lights lit in the house and on the tree , don't leave the house unoccupied . It isn't worth the risk . :(

A house fire happened near here lately too. The whole roof collapsed before any fire trucks arrived
so it was a complete loss, I'm sure.

Speaking of fires . Had a nice fire in the city yesterday that's still burning . Two of my ex-companies are within 1/4 mile of this . Moldcraft and Netzers Metal Craft . The entire area is still shut down .

I just saw this thread after reading one of the most stupid e-mails I've ever seen at work. I'm primarily in an office building and they just sent out notice that they have removed all of the fire extinguishers from common spaces. The reason? NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) rules state that fire extinguishers aren't required in buildings that are fully sprinkled. That and the fact that our duty is to evacuate, not fight fires. So a minor fire that could be easily put out by an extinguisher can turn into a full blaze until the sprinklers go off...ridiculous. Oh, but they are going to put them in the pantry rooms located on each floor (kitchenettes with microwaves). Until they removed them they were already about fifteen feet from the pantry rooms. The building will probably get charged for the removal of the original extinguishers and then billed to put them in the pantries...

How this makes sense to anybody is beyond me. I almost want to buy a big extinguisher, mark it with my name and put it on top of the cabinet over my desk! Heck, I keep an extinguisher in my truck just in case....

Yikes Dave, hope everyone is ok and their insurance comes to the resque.

We had a massive fire here recently. A 77-unit condo development basically burnt to the ground on Nov 21. Occurred on a night where we had very high winds.

Sorry to hear that.
I hope their insurance is adequate.

My niece and husband had their place out in California that burned to the ground also . I just found this out last week . The downed power lines were the culprit . I'm sure they'll make out fine . They're a little more well off than the most of us .

Anybody tried one of the fire blankets they are advertising on TV? Want one but they seem to be online only.

Haven't tried it, but did buy one from one of the online places that seem legit. It's under the sink by the extinguisher.

Lets all hope it's never needed Bart . I had the diesel light up 3 times traveling and each time was put out by my coffee . I now have dual extinquishers (sp) mounted in the truck as well as all vehicles . You never know .
