One of the perks of running a machine shop museum ( at Tuckahoe Steam & Gas Association) is getting to go look at items for possible donation. Today was one of those days. The most interesting item is a Potter and Johnson 15 inch shaper. It has automatic down feed and a universal table. The second item was a covel surface grinder but it has quite a bit of wear. The third item is a Hilles & Jones sheet metal roller that will do a piece of sheet metal about 5-1/2 eet wide. This thing was a beast. Notice the wooden handles on the turning end.

Already spoken for was his huge ass power hammer.

The worst part about this donation is that it's in a rural area and the dirt road leading to the house and workshop could best be described as a billy goat trail. Getting a truck and trailer in there is going to be a chore.

Some cool stuff there.

This was my fun today. Yesterday at Tuckahoe we were moving machinery out of one of our storage containers in order to pull out a New Haven planer and a KO Lee tool and cutter grinder that we had in storage that one of our members was buying. Here are a couple pictures

Technical dicficulty!

Man sweet old G&E.

All cool stuff! I would love to see some closeups of the auto down feed on the P&J shaper. How did it work?

I've only got a few pics of the head area and I believe there's some pieces missing from the down feed mechanism. The ram lock handle is also missing. But that wouldn't stop us from taking it.

Thanks. yeah, it's tough to know if there's something missing or not. A lot of the bigger shapers with downfeed the mechanism seems all internal and I have no idea how they work. I did see one recently that had a downfeed with an external mechanism and good pic's of it.
