Starrett has some weird threads.

To set things straight, I learned about girls from adult women. Turning 18 literally weeks before going to Honolulu, in uniform, then further down in the South Pacific to British Samoa, (French) Tahiti, and Wellington, N.Z., I had experiences with women much older than I. But as a sailor in uniform with a "Crow" on my sleeve, my age wasn't really an issue with them. As far as understanding one, that's a matter of my introversion as much as their desires. I do "comprehend" women, maybe not fully "understanding" one. Most of the answers can be found in the Old Testament. I "grok" them well enough that I steer clear except for a couple. It's largely emotional on their part and doing what needs doing on my part. I got lucky with the third one, she wants many of the same things as I do. A place to live for that is mine, not a mortgage holder, and enough to eat. The rest is "velvet", when you got it, get it. When you don't, do without.

I can attest to odd Starrett threads. I have a very old surface gage and need to make a new knurled knob but its difficult to determine the pitch because the hole is so small.

I like 20 tpi because they move 0.050” per revolution. I have made some machinist jacks with large diameter 20 tpi threads, and calibrate the outside with 0.005” markings. Some I made with 40 tpi for 0.025”/revolution like a micrometer would have.

It was amusing to go back to Machinery’s Handbook to try to make the threads analytically. Kind of worked.94D1E361-BA0C-45B7-83C6-038A989E13A2.jpeg20D537E4-B46F-4A25-8D82-9DBB70032C5D.jpeg

Not quite, but it solved a lot more problems. If I had stayed in school, the girls would surely have been much more interesting. But growing up too early does have some up sides. They must be better viewed in hindsight though. Learning about girls from women was fun.

All I learned early on was thise girls sure did mature faster than I did.
Girls liked me but I was scared to death!

In some ways, they did mature faster, but in others ... not so much.
Many have their priorities all messed up. More so these days.
