Springfield "ideal" Lathe ?s

Yes, the chuck is treaded on. 2" or maybe more.

I think I'll try out the taper attachment if it will do that much taper, else the compound and make a soft easy plug to test the headstock taper if I get it to fit, I'll either turn down that bit center or make a new one OR I may just order 1 and test.

The taper attachment works great on the "Ideal". Mine was missing the V groove slide so I made one and have made
a lot of tapers from tapered pins to MT3 for tooling. After some cleaning on the lathe, I found that on the right side
of the taper attachment, there is inches per foot markings for a rough adjustment, very handy. Previously, it had been
painted over.

I have a pretty old Reed lathe that has I think a Jarno taper in the headstock. Maybe worth checking on. That lathe was listed quite a while glad it didn't go to the scrap man. Good luck with it.

I looked at the jarno also but it too doesn't seem to match the dimensions.

Did you look at it? I was looking at another at the same time but when I saw all that was included, it sold me. I told my wife "this lathe is so well equipped, I can hardly think of anything to buy!" She just smiled.:adore:

I have just purchased a circa 1920 lathe. It came with much tooling and there is not much that I can determine is missing for it.

One thing though is that it came with 2 face plates and 5 dogs but no center that fits the headstock. In measuring the taper to try and determine what it is, it does not come out to be any of the common tapers. Near as I can measure the large end is 1.540" and 5" from that it is 1.325", the bore of the spindle tube. The tailstock is MT3

I'd be very glad to hear from anyone that has one of these or similar. This one is 8 1/2" from center to bed, (17" swing), and 54" between centers. Looks like the one in this post

I have a spindle adaptor, that is 4" long. It has an MT4 taper on the inside. The outside taper is 1.940", on the large end and 1.745" on the small end. I had 2 of them and just cut one up to make a 5c nose adaptor, for my 11" Logan lathe. If you think that you can re-cut the outside taper, to fit your lathe, you are welcome to it for the postage.

These were stored inside of a 16" SB lathe. Don`t recall, if they did not fit the lathe, of if there was yet a 3ed one, that went with the lathe, when it was sold off. ---- John

Sounds good John. Tell me how we can get in contact.

Those would have worked perfectly in the spindle of my 20" Lodge & Shipley Model X Lathe! If he passes, I'm interested.

The USPS is probably the winner but if you want it for the shipping to you + what I paid for shipping, it's yours. About $17 total.
