The cabinet in the photo below is identical to mine. I am in the process of disassembly for cleaning and painting and have been strategizing how to remove the motor assembly located in the cabinet. I've already removed the lathe from the cabinet. The assy must be removed either through the right side access panel or the front. Does anyone have a procedure that they would share in removing this assy? The real estate in the cabinet seems tight and due to the weight on the motor and cradle this looks to be a challenge.

Any suggestions that you would like to share would be appreciated.
Thanks - Jim

Why does it need to be removed, is there something wrong with it? I personally wouldn't mess with taking it out, unless absolutely necessary

Well, you're right, it doesn't NEED to come out. However, the inside is seriously nasty with oil and grease. I would like to get it cleaned out.

Yeah, I had a similar issue with my SB Heavy 10, it was absolutely filthy when I first bought it into the shop. I contemplated removing the countershaft and motor assembly, then decided it wasn't worth the effort. I did manage to get it pretty well cleaned up and lubricated working through the access doors. The Lathe has been running just fine since then, about 10 years now and I almost never look inside that compartment, anyway...
