Some small hammers I made

Beautiful job, as always George. I was "Oohing and Aahing" at the pics of your hammers. I even called the wife over to the computer to have a look. She said, "They're hammers?". No appreciation of fine work.

Keep up the nice work,

-Ron

Beautiful work Sir! What kind of steel are they made from? The wooden handles are also very nice (I'm assuming you made those yourself..).

The chasing hammers are deeply case hardened. The others are made of 01 drill rod.,drawn to a fire blue color.

Xalky, you could have put your response to the rhythm and music of the musical "Hair" .

you're a master craftsman. Thanks for the write up and closeup photos. I'm filing away these ideas for some hammers I might need in the future for welding or special jobs

These hammers have gotten great response!! Perhaps because they are something that everyone could make with just a lathe? I'll have to get into posting more work.

If anyone wants to copy these hammers, feel free.

I forgot: the thing I like to do LEAST is make handles. You cannot find real small ball pein handles these days. As I mentioned, the chasing hammer handles being sold are just horrible. When I have to make any handles,I usually just make a bunch, maybe 4. It is easier to make a bunch at once, and very quickly,I get to where I can make them identical without measuring.

A friend, who considers himself a great designer, and has a good sized business making tourist trinkets, saw my handles being made, and was so surprised that I'd bother to MAKE them!! Well, the guy is all about money, and not so much about craft. I wish I had his money, though!!

It may be that the are "something everyone could make with just a lathe" but I think it goes beyond that. While I could make something roughly the same shape I don't think I could come close to your finish and attention to detail. It's THAT which I drool over. Can't speak for anyone else though.

Thanks for sharing,

-Ron

Let me second that. "everybody" might be able to make a hammer, but yours are usable jewels.
