So I posted some photos in the what did you do today post, but thought I might try me hand at a full post of my own.

I acquired the "boot patcher" from my Dad when he passed, it's been sitting to the side waiting for the right time to start a rebuild. My wife does a lot of sewing projects and was talking about how she needed something to sew small heaver items. So now is the time to start.

I got the frame disassembled and ready to send off for a blast and paint. I have the machine it's self tore down last night will post more photos as I can.

Overall it's in good shape for it's age. I did find a couple of things that will need to be addressed, but overall it should be an easy project.

Yeah seen many old Singer pedal type but never with a walking beam like that. Must be super heavy duty!

I haven't run the serial number to date it yet but they made these for a long time. It is VERY HEAVY and well built. I'll get some more photos later this week.

Machine is totally torn down. Found a couple of issues. The shuttle carrier is loose in its pivot hole, the racks are loose and the stich length cam has some wear. Of course everything it's filthy and has light rust. Will spend the next few days cleaning and inspecting for any other issues.

Started the clean up today, need to get more solvent, the dried on 100 year old oil is not coming off without a fight. I did manage to start polishing up the throat plate, here is a comparison of the spare to the one I started working on. I'm going to ry my hand at nickel plating the shiny bits. Never done that before. Wish me luck.

One of the go-to chemicals for dissolving the old oil on sewing machines is alcohol, ie: isopropyl, methyl-hydrate, etc. I use it all the time and rarely need anything else. Just keep it well away from the black japanned parts — it can and will dissolve it in a jiffy, also any gold decals. Kerosine is also popular although I find it too slow for my liking.
