Show us your machinist's toolbox, inside and out!

Chief, I really like your set-up, for a home shop that can't be beat. Wouldn't have worked in the shops where I used to work. If you left the tools exposed like that, you wouldn't have had any tools after the first coffee break!

Redrish :: I for got to show you -all my security system, Jerry Lea.

That is Jerry lea's other job besides Security, But he still has a little trouble when I tell him to bring me a wire brush, he trys to bring the table grinder with the wire wheel on it ...LOL:lmao:

First I have to clean all the detrius out of my shop that accumulated during the years I spent onthe road. Evidently, my wife thought that tossing stuff in there and closing the door was a good idea. Once I get that done, it's time for good shelving and then tool storage.

I have 3 role around craftsman tool boxes. 2 are old ones and are heavy duty, the new one is nice but not as sturdy. I tend to make my own organizers since I can never find just what I want.

This is just a random sample of draws.

I also have wide array of other cabinets. I have found old microfilm draws and lift door horizontal file cabinets work great. If you look around at auctions you can find some cool stuff. Old library and school stuff works well.

The microfilm ones are supper heavy duty. I can stand in one of the draws and still it will slid easy. In the last year I have been trying to move everything to close able steel storage. Helps keep the dust down and doesn't hold moister.

My dream find is and 1950 or 1960's steel map cabinet. Draws are like 50" by 30" and about 2" deep. Would love to put all of my wrenches in one draw, my sockets in one, layout tools. ETC...

I have bought a few of these old map cabinets you mentioned. I see them all the time on the GSA Auction site, all over the country. I purchased mine at the Surplus City, in Albuquerque NM. We use ours for keeping construction drawings organized.

OK you convinced me. This is one of 4 in my shop right now. Its the biggest and the other three are roll around 4 drawer tool carts from Cornwell tools. They are tough and heavy duty and harder than the other brands to tip over too.

Nothing fancy here and I don't show everything, but you get the idea.
