If I'm not mistaken, the load for a Brinell test is 3000 lbs. not 3 tons, and that's using a harden 10mm diameter steel ball. Correct me if I'm wrong.
They make a cheaper 10X lighted scope that has a graduated scale you use to measure the average diameter of the indention made by the penetrator.

Oops, got that wrong. My King Brinell Hardness chart says 3000 Kg load, sot that would be about 6 ,000 lbs. So you are correct. My mistake.
