Sherline Boring Head Improvements

I think a Tenthset 37 might work well on the Sherline. You can make a shank to fit the 5/8-18 threads in the top. It takes 3/8" boring tools. The vernier on the adjusting collar reads to tenths. There are usually some on flea bay.

This was my father’s boring head from 1980. I inherited this and it didn’t even have a dial, (just a 4-40 shcs). I bought a dial and screw from Sherline. The end face was not machined and any distortion, (highs and lows), will deduce the accuracy.

I faced and chamfered the face of the screw and added small pins with a single scribed and blackened line so that I could accurately read the dial, (one for the small range and another longer pin on the other side.

These modifications should improve the head’s accuracy.

This is an interesting thread.
I was looking at a Levin boring head on ebay last week but I'm short on $$ perpetually it seems.
Smallest head I have is a Flynn but it's way too big for my Sherline.
