Hope this is the right forum to post this mix up, but I need the internets help.

I stumbled across a 166xxx SN 9 inch model A with tools and attachments. It belonged to a family friend. The seller and I talked back and forth, and he was coming to town, so was willing to drop it off. On arrival it was noticed that the shaft holding the stepped pulley had not been well secured and the pulley is somewhere between here and there. Dont worry, the seller is a good guy and dropped the price until we can make things right. SO I spent the day cleaning 70ish years worth of crud off.

So I have this beautiful ole Gal all cleaned up, but no where to go. Any help would be ideal. He suggested going VFD, but I don't know much about the conversions. I live in a rental so, adding wiring is a no go. Also concerned about loss of torque, but I am not tech savvy. I looked on Google and eBay. Lots of flat belt drive pulleys.

Im stepping up from a LMS 7x14 that I have been playing with for a while. Enjoy some pics

The shaft is probably a standard size so you should be able to find a 4 step pulley for it- not a hard part to find
I like the guard on your electric switch- looks like a radio antenna

Nice looking lathe. I have a 9a that uses v belt pulleys like that. As Mark said, you should be able to find one for it. Try Lost Creek Machine. They have lots of South Bend parts.

If you have the worn pulley, if you can't find a good one, perhaps the old pulley bore could be sleeved back to a good fit on the countershaft. Looks you really lucked out with all the tooling!

Turns out its a challenge to find a 4 step pulley for a 7/8 shaft. But Ill call lost Creek machine tomorrow.

Could you run a 7/8 bore single groove pulley in the interim to gain the ability to fab a matching pulley or bore out a 3/4 bore 4 step pulley? Use a segmented belt.

I checked their website yesterday. Some flat pulley drives. But, of course no v-pulley. Hopefully you will come across one.

You probably do no have to add any circuits to use a VFD. There are 110V single phase to 220V 3-phase VFDs at very reasonable prices. I had a TECO FM50 on a similar SB9A for a number of years. Setting up the wiring for it was daunting - for me- at first, but I've since set the same type of VFD, albeit for 220V single-to-3-phase, on larger machines. TECO is NOT one of the more reasonable costing lines, but others are.

Do an internet search on "low voltage vfd" and you'll come up with a variety.

The step pulley on the jackshaft has to match the diameters on the headstock.

Just the incremental diameters. Don’t have to be same sizes, just widths, spacing, and diameter increments.
