After thinking it over, my "On-Track" Harbor Freight 20% coupon that was to expire today, was applied toward a medium-sized sandblast cabinet. Oh man, this thing is cool. I haven't used one since high school and forgot how useful they are. -Been running around the shop looking for cruddy stuff to zap. The air compressor hasn't seen this much work in a good while. Anyhow, it's a nice unit and seems to seal up pretty well.

I'm planning on using it to blast metal before the black oxide treatment and to put an even finish on some of the aluminum fixtures and bracket type stuff I do.

BTW: The data sheet on it does not mention that it comes with a simple spray nozzle. It works very well. I bought a separate spray nozzle kit not knowing this thing came with one. -A little bummed about that... Maybe I can return it.

I got one about 2 months ago they are great for the price. I only use glass in mine to cleanup before the Black oxide process.

I got a 18" Florance light to put in do I can see a little better, Haven't put it in yet also got one of the cyclones to use with it.

Quick questions...

Is there anything I should know about blasting media (aside from the obvious health/safety issues)? I picked-up a big bottle of some general purpose, 80 grit material. I'm guessing it's glass or ceramic but not sure -white in color. Does it need to be replenished or replaced? Are there different types for different applications? Do some work better than others?

The darn stuff was expensive so don't want to make mistakes on future purchase.

Thanks

Ray

Ray it all break down in time, I'm using glass in the one that I'm using for machined parts. After awhile it will only be dust and won't work after that.

I have a older and a lot bigger cabinet in my old shop I use sand in it for dirty and general stuff. Those are the only medias I have used so I can't say about the others. Other than they all break down after extended use.

Ray, ummmm, A few things we are using #80 glass media which is easier on nozzels. It must be kept
dry, beleive me we have to screen in often and is messy. Then I thought to stick a drop light in there
and that seems to be the trick keeping it dry. Then a small shop vac and my kid bored a hole though
the wall with one of those clothes dryer flaped vent on the outside. Then he wired in one switch that
turns on light and vac. Next I made a sign "parts must be clean before using this thing" like stripping
paint and or descaling cause it will pollute the media in no time. Then we have the siphon upright
style with black beauty for dirty suff. Used out side. We have the industrial one that will except a
6 cyl head. Ill tell ya I put all our V blocks / blocks even a 24 inch caliper in there and came out like
a mirror blocks looked brand new. So keep it dry, clean the part best you can do use a vac you will
be good. Im tempted to build a cabbose out side for the noisy vac.
