Safety second doesn't work !!!

I have asked one of the guys I used to work with to take a photo of the safety switch and send it to me - I can't go and take a photo myself as it's 2200 km away. As soon as I get it I'll either upload it or put a link to it.
It wasn't a "school modification", the lathe came to us from BHPBilliton, Iron Ore Division, Port Hedland WA. It was their minesite reqs. Because we had their apprentices at our tech. they asked that all our other lathes be fitted out with them too, which we did

Here is the chuck key holder, it has a micro switch and the key has to be fully in for the lathe to be able to work.

That reminds me of my techschool time. If we had same students I was with at that time, and such safety switch...
Someone would just put a piece of round stock in there and not bother with putting the chuck key in there at all.
But if there would be some kind of special profile, that would not work.

Those students are still out there plus the ones who turn their brain off when they walk thru the door, you just have to identify them early and keep an eye on them. But with the aggressive pursuit of safety in the mining industry they are getting weeded out and sacked or banned from site if they work for a contractor which amounts to the same thing. Fortunately there are many good kids who more than make up for the losers.
