Runout of a 3-jaw chuck on an ENCO 13 x 40 lathe

Standard runout on the chucks that come with TAIWAN made lathes always seems to be .003",time after time. So,I always end up keeping the 4 jaw,and buying a Bison for the self centering chuck. I have probably bought about 8 of the Bison 8" 4 jaw self centering chucks. They run only about .001" out,or a tiny bit more. I prefer the Bison 4 jaw because I can use square stock as well as round stock in it. With the 3 jaw,you can use hex. Depends upon what work you do.

I won't buy mainland Chinese chucks,so I don't know what their runout is. It is aggravating that in the Grizzly catalog, absolutely NO info is given as to the runout of their chucks or tailstock centers. They only offer data on adjust true type chucks because they know it is safe for them to do so,since they're adjustable. I won't buy chucks like that. Let alone WHAT crappy cast iron grade they might be made of,either. Or,if their jaws are case hardened only a few thou. deep.
