Hi, All:
In my introduction to be a member I stated that so far, all my projects were made with a bandsaw, drill press, sanders, hammer & cold chisel, files, sand paper, and the almighty Dremel tool. So, that is the only kind of projects that I can post. Here goes, an aluminum handle for a Ruger mini 14 folding stock, to replace the plastic one shown. I made it to the Colt 1911 specks. The angles etc, and it accepts any Colt style full size grips. It holds two spare .223 rounds inside.

Very nice idea and work .... "how does the spare round cover latch"
Can you show us a pic of that ?
What kind of wood forms the handle and rest of gun ? Is it wood or plastic ?
Welcome aboard

Really nice work, for a machinist with a full shop. Bloody amazing for a few hand tools.

That looks a lot better than the original!!! A rather European touch, having the extra cartridges stored.

Nice work indeed. Is that a barrel stabilizer under the front end??

I,ll try to answer the questions. The cover latch has a slight step on the post that goes into the corasponding hole, which has a two step rubber insert set into it. the rubber insert is seated into the hole dry, and the post is lightly lubed with siclacone grease, so that it, with a good amount of preasure, will release.
It is sort of a goofy arangment, but works really well. The wood handle mentioned, I assume you ment the grips, are Ruger rosewood 1911 government pistol grips. the grip handle frame will accept any Colt 1911 pistol, or clone of it. If you notice the frame is drilled and tapped for std. Colt mounting grip studs. The rest of the stock is birch wood. The object mounted under the bbl. is a Mini Mag flashlight in a mount that I whittled out of aluminum. As for the grip handle beeing better than the original plastic one, the grip handle was built because the Ruger co. wouldn't sell me a replacement grip.
Thanks for looking at the pics. and the coments.
