Just a followup on my Rotex status. Referencing the photo in post #9 of the handwheel. After reassembling everything, I realized that a majority of the backlash I have been coping with for a long time was simple 'end play' at the ball bearings under the hand wheels. I snugged that down and got rid of about 0.030" backlash. It's down under 0.010 now. The permanent fix was to get a pair of thin shear nuts to replace the single nut shown in the pic. Without double nuts, the single nut would easily back off and the play would return in short order.
And embarassingly, the cleaning and oiling of the table ways has made a BIG difference in how easily the table moves at ends of travel.
