Little late to the party but wanted to say thanks for writing this up @Howard E.
Found it very helpful in planning and adding the z axis scale to my RF-30 clone also!

FYI the setup is still working perfectly well, the only thing I've noticed is sometimes theres a bit of jitter on the Z when milling horizontally but as the quill is locked for that it really doesn't matter.
