I woke up on Wednesday and my wife said...you look bored; we are renovating the powder room. It was an outdated room with cultured marble and brass fixtures.
Here is the new look:

Very satisfying to do something like this and save a fortune on contactors!
Most of the stuff came from Lowes. That marble vanity top is less than $300. The whole job is under $1000. The price of paint is ridiculous! We paid $60/gallon at Sherwin Williams!
Cabinet was existing but I took the doors off and refinished them with steel wool, stain and a new coat of poly. They look like new. I put a spacer under the counter top to raise it 1-1/2" to a normal height. Worked out great!

Nice job. I know what you mean about saving on contractor costs. We are in the planning process for upgrading our master bathroom. My wife wants it done quick, so we are going with a contractor. The labor estimate is $17,500, writing that check is going to hurt!

That's a big number.

Yeah, that came in higher than I was expecting. Materials are in addition to that, so by time it is done, we will probably be in the $24-25k range. I plan on building the vanity, so that will that will save us a little bit. My youngest goes to college in a few years, I think when it comes time to do the kids bathroom, my wife will be more agreeable to having me do it since she won’t be inconvenienced lol.

Thats the wrong kind of powder room. There should be 8lb jugs of smokeless powder there instead of a toilet and sink.

Good call. I did this 4 or 5 years ago, wife insisted on new cabinets. I said we should keep the existing ones because they're real wood and the stuff they had at Lowes was particle board. I told her those things will be puffed up from water in 6 months. I was wrong, it took a couple of years, but here we are with the puffy patches I said were inevitable.

Same here. The cabinets are 1995 well made high end plywood. Worth saving.
