I've slowly been cleaning up my new / old surface grinder when time will allow. There are several items that will need replacing/repairing including the motor and drive, all of the electrical, a new crossfeed screw, and a few other misc. items. I'm starting this thread on rebuilding a new crossfeed screw which I accomplished this weekend. Here are a few pic's of what took place.

The first picture is of the nut from the grinder. Next picture is the new screw and old screw section "close up" side by side. Note the excessive wear on the old screw section. Third pic. is the old screw and new screw section. Last is the old screw complete before cutting off the old section of screw. I'm going to "splice" the new section of screw on the old shaft from the cross feed screw.

Looking good Ken, I'll be following this rebuild. I have a old Jones & Shipman but it is in pretty good shape.

Thanks for the post Oldiron,

I've planning on posting some pictures of cleaning her up. My job has me rather busy at the moment. Try to do so later this week.

Here's a couple pictures of what it looked like when I got it.

It doesn't look like it needs much cleaning, Looks a lot better than mine.

It looks good on the outside, BUT the inside was horribly filthy with grinding crud a inch deep! I've spent roughly two solid weeks cleaning the crud out of everything on the grinder. It's cleaner now, about as good as it is going to get. The lubrication system is functioning good, so far no stopped up metering units. Here's a couple of pics of the grime...

I've been very busy with my real job that makes me money to fund these projects with. Finnaly got the grinder back together and she's running. For a surface grinder that has been run hard over the past 25 years and put out to pasture for me to revive, it does a half way decent job grinding. Nearly see myself in the surface. There is a little washboard effect in the ground surface, can't feel it, good enough for me.:)) Attached are several pictures of my process of restoring this surface grinder.

Here's a couple pictures after cleaning.

Nice machine, I have one that needs a magnetic chuck, wheel arbor, oil pump and wired up. It's actually very clean but then again it's a hand operated machine so I'm sure it didn't get a ton of use.

Here's pictures of the new motor drive and electrical cabinet.
