Reaming vs boring bar - affordable reaming set?

I have found myself in the same boat and learned to shoot for a reamer size that I have on hand.
sometimes it even makes sense to make a new part in a closest reamer size even though the part was fine but didn't fit the bushing or bushing didn't fit the shaft etc.

Other than to scrape out *a little more*, I don't see the point of them. The whole idea of reamers is to have an exact size. You would never really know what size it is reaming.

They are valuable of you have short runs of an odd size and don't want to stock a lot of reamers in the tool crib. Especially there is an advantage in the larger sizes. It would cost a fortune to keep many larger sizes. All you have to do is set it with a set ring and run a test hole, and if you are on....go to work. I've used many of them. I have a couple now I have nearly worn out.
