Quirky Atlas mods

This one was converted to a wood lathe, according to the owner. Evidently converting an Atlas to a wood lathe requires welding the headstock in place! Ha!
 
I bought my Atlas 3996 in early 1981 and that is easily the weirdest mod that I have ever seen. I can't think of any good reasons for doing that and only one bad one. You don't say whether or not you are going to buy it but I would 't unless the price was at or near zero.
