I have placed an order for a PM-1340GT. What is a good quick change tool post for this machine?

BXA sized Alorius style is what PM sells with it, why didn't you order it with the lathe? save shipping that way and PM prices/quality are good.
BTW i can drive up to SA and break it in for you.

I can't speak to the PM's tool post itself, but their BXA holders seems to be one of the best values, at least based on initial impressions and quality of the ones I've received. For my 1340GT I ordered an Aloris BXA post and then all my holders from PM. I have one boring holder from another brand, don't recall off hand, but just the appearance and finish on the PM is much nicer.

Thank you for the reply. As inexpensive as the tier tool post is, I assumed it wan not great quality compared to an Aloris. Does it compare? If so, I I will contact PM and have it added to the order.

The tool post from PM is nice. Go ahead and add it & some tool holders to the cart. You won’t be disappointed.

My PM 1440 lathe came with the PM QC tool post. Has worked fine for 8 years. I have a mix of import tool holders: PM, mostly Shars, & some of unknow origin. All work fine. The cheapest ones needed the set screws replaced, McMaster-Carr. Some to hold round bars, some to hold 3/4" tools in the BAX holders. About 23 holders. I don't like to change tooling in holders, once set up it's just grab & go.

yes they are good quality, not as good as Aloris IMO but a lot more affordable, IMO get one and use it for a wile you will not go wrong, you may find that you like a different type like a multifix but until then you will will be making razor spaghetti. the stock 4 way is ok but a lot of time will be spent changing out tools and shimming.

PMs BXA tooling set is nice also, they inude tools that use all 4 sides of the inserts which lets you get more use out of them. I actually sought out one of those sets for my non-PM lathe so I wouldn't have to deal with quite as many insert types. All the tools in the kit use the same CCMT/CCGT 300 type inserts.

I had a Dorian on my 1340GT. Very accurate/repeatable. Spendy.
