Questions about surface grinder

Obviously I need a bigger shop. 30x32 doesn't quite cut it.

Cadillac.... I just looked at CL in Chicago and you are correct, quite a few on there running the gamut on pricing.

Some ask outrageous prices and have been there for yrs. I have my luck at auctions can be hadfor less than 500 easily. Tooling too but Ive found that adds up easily and quickly. Auctions usually have quality tooling just used so you need to look at what type of company the auction is at.

^^Agreed^^^.

Did you take a look at the link in my first post BTW? Those are the kinds of auctions that I peruse.

If it’s not within 50miles I’m not interested. Thanks though. Their are auctions at least once a month somewhere around here sometimes every week. I use bidspotter a lot.
As for rigging if they have a forklift or bobcat should be no problem go rent a drop trailer which are sweet if you have never used one. Drops to ground level drive on. Then use pipe and roll into garage. Unless your a basement scenario then it’s probably worth the 1500. Crap you can rent a bobcat and get a tow truck for probably under 500.
For the leaks probably acouple dried out o’rings or seals. Should be no problem seals can be had anywhere.

7milesup I *dream* of a 30X32 shop! mine is 20X26 and it is getting hard to walk around it!

Did you go look at them on the preview day?

No, that was today and I had no time. Plus, it is a 5 hour round trip. BTW, aren't you in Red Wing? You could have run down there for me. LOL.

I actually have thought about you lately ddickey because at this time of the year I haul a lot of corn and beans to the grain terminal on the river.

I just meant for you to take a look at those surface grinders, not bid on them. LOL. I don't have anything within 50 miles of me.

As far as moving machines, I have a small utility trailer that is built like a tank but also have access to other trailers. I own a diesel Ram pickup so pulling is not a problem.

Where would you find a new "Home size" surface grinder? Similar to the question of buying a used Bridgeport versus a new Precision Matthews mill. Or is there only used machine hunting for that?

Answered my own question with a search. Tormach has a surface grinder. Around $5000 new. Similar cost if wanting to get a PM mill or lathe new.
