Question, help needed, advice

Shaper / slotter head. Or set up a properly indexed / rotated shaping tool in your quill and shape by hand .001 per pass or there abouts.

Well I pretty much got it done, just finish work left now, all out of one piece, so just a little more filing, sanding and then bluing when I do the whole rifle and can get to my bluing tanks. Snowed another 6-7 inches Saturday. I want to thank all who replied.........I wish I had a shaper head but consider myself fortunate to have what I do. God has provided me what he wants me to have.

This kind of work is what I got a Butterfly die filer for. I’m very impressed with the versatility, in that it can use part of a hacksaw blade or any of a variety of file shapes. The file is always perpendicular to the piece, and there is perfect visibility of scribe lines for precise work.

And importantly it is easy to do work inside a closed surface. I mean a hole. :-)

a spindle sander and a finger belt sander would help, along with the die filer mentioned above. Dave

Hey that die filer is a slick tool, didn't know they existed.......don't know if I would use one enough to purchase. It would of saved me a bunch of work however......I'll keep it in mind for future purchases...........as far as spindle sanders go I guess you could say I have a poor mans spindle sander as I use my drill press spindle to sand a lot, spindle sander would come in handy but again.......as with most folks a lot of it comes down to room.......I am full with my shop and do have plans to move some of my stuff down to a metal storage container about 300 yards from my house but it would not be available in winter as there is just too much snow. When our house was built I had a shop built on to the house but I out grew it pretty quick. I started moving out to the garage a bit and the wife put a stop to that so as soon as the snow all melts I guess I am headed to the storage container........maybe a die filer and spindle sander in the future...... I consider myself fortunate to have what I have and if my shops size is the worst thing I have to complain about, well..........you know the rest.
