QCGB assembly: is this correct? I have some gears binding

Caution, Caution, Caution, the old ZAMAK will be prone to breaking if you bend it cold. And won't take a lot of heat.

Bill is absolutely correct. Zamak is not malleable. like cast iron, it will usually break before it bends.

Aren't these QCGB gears? If so aren't they steel? I have an aftermarket O'Brien QCGB and it has steel gears. I just assumed the Atlas QCGBs were too. Is that not so?

All of the Atlas Change Gears were Zamak but AFAIK, all of the gears in all of the QCGB's that Atlas built were steel.

These gears are all steel. I just bought new used ones on Ebay. Everything is working well.

The gears were bored out bigger at some point, but it was too much; there was not enough material at the base, so the gears failed when under a high load. The new ones have much more "meat" between the bore and bottom of the gear teeth.
