Precision Matthews 5c-adj-D1-4, worth the money ?

I bought one with my PM lathe in 2016, $120. No idea if they still sell the same model. Mine is excellent and my go to when the work will fit.
The only disadvantage I see to 5C is the small holding range. You need a set by 64ths! Most of which you will never use! The catch is which ones!
I've added 64s ones to my 32nds set, as needed + several hex & square + an internal stop. Mostly Shars. Its discouraging to be in the middle of a project and find I don't have the correct collet. My fall back is my PM ER40 chuck but it isn't as accurate.

The Shipping is $29.99. Not for sure where the outlandish shipping number came from unless it was for an entire lathe. Shipping for the mount is $0 when shipped with a lathe.

The current PM web site price is $299.99. So $299.99 + $29.99 = $329.98 total for the 5-C Adjustable Collet Chuck, D1-4 Mount.

For a long time there was nothing, reasonably priced, available for the "5-C Adjustable Collet Chuck, D1-5 Mount". So sometimes one needs to buy it when it is available so that he has it when needed.
Thanks for the clarification; if I had a suitably sized lathe I probably would get one since “I know I’ll use sometime.”

Overall price seems ok, but $350 for shipping? You could get a lathe shipped for that, or make a couple of round trips to visit PM.
Sorry ,I never thought anyone would actually think it was $350 for shipping, I should have been more clear. $353.08 is the total price, Inc shipping & tax

Is the spindle bore not large enough (1-3/8") for a 5c draw-tube? Assuming a spindle nose to 5c adapter is available, I would consider that before a collet chuck.
Good point, I had not considered that.

Here is my review of it.

Overall it is a good chuck. You might need to do some tuning of it like I did, but once you do that, it should work well for you.

This will be a new experience with a "tunable" 5C collet chuck, hopefully it comes with good instructions.
