Precision Matthews 5c-adj-D1-4, worth the money ?

Now that PM finally has these 5C collet chucks back in stock, are they worth the money ($299) plus tax, plus shipping, for a total of $353.08 anyone have one & are you happy with it?

I just received one a couple days ago, I have had it on order since March. It seems real nice and high quality. I have it dialed in but I haven't used it yet. In my option it's worth it.

You can spend 1K on the Bison/TMX set-tru 5C chucks, the PM/QMT 5C Set Tru chuck is the next best thing, well worth the price. I have the Bison which I bought many years ago, and had already gone through three 5C chucks prior to that. But I have worked with quite a few HM forum members who bought the PM/QMT chuck and have been very happy with them. It is the one that I recommend w/o breaking the bank. The lesser expensive ones are not worth it, this is based on my previous mistakes with the first three 5C chucks I purchased. Buy once, cry once.

Stay away from the lower priced 5 C chucks that are all over EBay. They are junk and not worth your time messing with. The only use for the one I have is a door stop. A three jaw chuck was way more accurate.

Is the spindle bore not large enough (1-3/8") for a 5c draw-tube? Assuming a spindle nose to 5c adapter is available, I would consider that before a collet chuck.

The Shipping is $29.99. Not for sure where the outlandish shipping number came from unless it was for an entire lathe. Shipping for the mount is $0 when shipped with a lathe.

The current PM web site price is $299.99. So $299.99 + $29.99 = $329.98 total for the 5-C Adjustable Collet Chuck, D1-4 Mount.

For a long time there was nothing, reasonably priced, available for the "5-C Adjustable Collet Chuck, D1-5 Mount". So sometimes one needs to buy it when it is available so that he has it when needed.
