Power Draw Bar $123.00

Hi, this is a pretty old post but was wondering if anyone has used this or if so would you make changes to it? Going to make one myself but not sure how to make it so I can smack the bar to release the collet??

If I were to make one myself I would use a 110v electric impact gun instead of pneumatic. I have never used one so I don't know how the collet is pushed down to be released.

That’s actually not a terrible idea. Any particular reason why electric over air? Wonder how much more the torque would be plus you could set a switch to in gauge when the gun was pulled downward onto the drawbar.
Darn I ordered a butterfly gun already but suppose I can return it.

I usually don't need air when I am running my mill. I wouldn't want to have to pressurize my compressor every time I want to use my mill. This is one of the biggest reasons I haven't bought one of the kits.

I have an 20 year old HF 1/2" 110v electric that still out powers my big Dewalt 1/2" 20v impact gun.

I bought one of those electric from HF, mine was garbage. it wouldn't break lug nuts, I could not get 80 ft/lbs to break. I torqued to that and it wouldn't remove it. Returned it. Tried another, then gave up. No way was it meeting the 240ft/lbs.
You were lucky, I was not.

I'm using air. I usually have it on the mill for the coolant spray. And I like the blow gun for removing chips on the work. My guess is that the electric impact will work just as well. Just keep in mind that the little butterfly models are usually not very powerful. Don't replace it with some monster electric version.

The impact is usually enough to push the collet out. Very occasionally, I end up having to snug it back up and go again. You can also just pull the handle down to smack the drawbar.
